  • Letter from ASBMR President Suzanne Jan De Beur, M.D.
     December 3, 2020

    Dear Colleagues:

The year 2020 has been unlike any we have experienced before. Our scientific community has undergone radical changes and navigated a constantly shifting landscape in all areas. Nevertheless, amid the obstacles and uncertainties 2020 has presented, your scientific home, ASBMR, is seizing this moment to be a more global, connected, innovative and inclusive “One Global ASBMR Family.”

We have witnessed incredible resiliency and even experienced heightened engagement with our members throughout the year — culminating in our 2020 Annual Meeting that was held virtually — and the positive momentum continues with the following member-only offerings in 2021:

    • A Wide Range of Diverse, Year-Round Virtual Programs: As a member, you can enjoy robust educational programs from the comfort and safety of your own home, including a few new programs: Meet the Professors Series, Webinar Series, new Member Spotlight Series, new Early Stage Investigator Clinical Case Workshops, and new monthly Member Virtual Meet-Ups. We’re also launching our first podcast in January 2021 that will highlight expert voices, scientific advancements, and hot topics impacting the global bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal field. Whether you’re starting your day or on the go, the new podcast will be a great way for you to tune in to the latest topics in the field.

    • New Funding Opportunities That Help the Future of the Bone, Mineral, and Musculoskeletal Field: Members can apply for the new ASBMR First Independent Research Support & Transition (FIRST) Awards. This new award helps recipients transition from a trainee position to establishing their own independent research career in the bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal field. We also remain committed to funding our Rising Star Award and Fund for Research and Education Research Grant programs in 2021. Learn more and find out if you qualify for the available awards by visiting the ASBMR website.

    • Present Your Latest Research at the Field’s Premier Meeting: ASBMR will continue to innovate our Annual Meeting sessions in 2021 to ensure that as many members as possible have the opportunity to present leading research in the bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal field.

    • Publish Your Cutting-Edge Findings: Members receive free online access for all ASBMR publications, as well as free manuscript submissions and discounted article publishing fees. Stay up to date with research or publish your own findings in the most respected and highly cited publications in the field, including our flagship publication, JBMR®.

We greatly value your support and engagement with our “One Global ASBMR Family,” and thank you for your commitment to us in 2020. We ask that you continue to be a part our community and commit to making ASBMR your scientific home in 2021 and beyond by renewing your ASBMR membership today. As a special offer, you can even sign up for our discounted three-year renewal option. If you have any membership questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us or contact asbmr@asbmr.org.

    Sincerely,
    Suzanne Jan De Beur, M.D.
    ASBMR President
