    Date: March 26, 2020

The Women in Bone and Mineral Research Committee is pleased to announce the 2020 recipient of the ASBMR Phoebe Leboy Award, Cynthia Kahari.

Cynthia Kahari is a diagnostic radiographer and an NIH Fogarty Trent PhD Fellow at the Biomedical Research and Training Institute in Harare, Zimbabwe. She is pursuing a PhD with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, (UK) focusing on the effect of HIV and its treatment on cortical and trabecular bone architecture in children, adolescents and premenopausal women from two independent sub-Saharan African populations (Zimbabwe and South Africa). Her career goal is to become an independent musculoskeletal researcher, leading her own research team conducting cutting-edge research that will improve the musculoskeletal health of populations living in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award provides a female young investigator who resides outside the United States with the resources needed for her to attend the ASBMR Annual Meeting, mentorship from senior women in the field, and complimentary membership in the Society. The award is named in honor of the legacy and contributions of Dr. Phoebe Leboy, a longstanding ASBMR member who dedicated her life to the mentoring of future generations of scientific investigators.
