Early Stage Investigators Urged to Apply to 2021 Endocrine Fellows Forum by August 10
The Endocrine Fellows Foundation (EFF) and the ASBMR will offer fellows training in osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases, a unique opportunity to participate in a Fellows Forum on Metabolic Bone Diseases. This year the Endocrine Fellows Forum will be held virtually, September 24-25, 2021. To be considered, you must apply by Tuesday, August 10. Selected participants will receive complimentary registration to attend this year’s ASBMR Annual Meeting (in-person or virtually!). Visit the Fifteenth Fellows Forum website for more details.

ASBMR is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2021 Rising Star Awards. This award provides funding to promising young scientists and physician-scientists in the bone field who have been recognized by individual NIH “K awards” and other similar international professional development programs. The following applicants were selected as the award recipients:
- Eliane Dutra, D.D.S., M.S.D., Ph.D., University of Connecticut Health, “The role of FGFR3 in the effects of PTH in the Mandibular Condyle” (K01 Mentored Research Scientist Development Award, USA).
- Antonio Maurizi, Ph.D., University of L'Aquila, “In-depth phenotyping and experimental therapy of Cole Carpenter Syndrome” (Telethon General Grant, Italy).
- Kelly Wentworth, M.D., University of California, San Francisco, “Dissecting the Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Contributing to Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia” (K08 Clinical Development Award, USA).

Applications are now being accepted for the Betsy Love McClung, RN, MN Travel Grant. All nurses, nursing students, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians and therapists involved in the care of patients with metabolic bone diseases are encouraged to apply. The recipient of this year's grant will use the funds to travel to the 2021 ASBMR Annual Meeting. The deadline to apply is 11:59 PM EDT on Friday, August 13, 2021. The ASBMR Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee invites you to join the next session of the ASBMR Member Spotlight Series on Wednesday, August 25 at 1:00 PM EDT. Tune in as Marco Brotto, BSN, MPharm, Ph.D. and Hazel Jay Endowed Professor & Director, Bone-Muscle Research Center, University of Texas, Arlington presents his research on bone-muscle crosstalk range from cell, animal, to human models, and Charles Schurman, Ph.D., University of California, San Francisco, presents his research which identifies physical defects behind functional losses of the LCN and explores, through in silico modeling, potential ways to restore stimulation to aged osteocyte networks. Volunteers Needs to Lead BMUS Program
The United States Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) is submitting a call for applications to fill the positions of co-chairs for The Burden of Musculoskeletal Diseases in the United States (BMUS). The BMUS is a fully online, interactive platform, provides detailed evidence of the burden posed by a multitude of musculoskeletal diseases. ASBMR has been a member of USBJI since its founding nearly two decades ago.
