For the past four years, ASBMR has offered grants through the ASBMR Fund for Research and Education to help promising young scientists and physician-scientists in the bone field who are currently seeking to learn a new technique or to obtain additional funding to successfully complete a project. We’ve never been as committed to the success of that fund as we are today, which is why we are excited to share some important news. As part of #GivingTuesday, held Tuesday, December 1, ASBMR will be generously matching all donations to the ASBMR Fund for Research and Education up to $25,000 USD. Will YOU join us?

The ASBMR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee invites you to the next session of the ASBMR Member Spotlight Series on Thursday, November 19 at 3:00 PM EST. Tune in as Fabrizio Pin, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow at the Indiana University School of Medicine presents on the mechanistic effects of RANKL in cachexia and identifies RANKL as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of musculoskeletal complications associated with non-metastatic RANKL-expressing cancers. Our second presenter is Dr. Bruno Ferraz-de-Souza, M.D., Ph.D., attending Physician and tenured PI at the University of Sao Paulo. Dr. Ferraz-de-Souza’s research focuses on identifying the genetic basis of bone fragility at the individual level in the Brazilian population, which is ethnically mixed and underrepresented in published genetic studies. If you would like to participate in next week's session or plan to attend a future session, you can register here. All ASBMR members are invited to present and attend these sessions, and we also highly encourage you to nominate colleagues to present their research at a future spotlight session. Please click here for more information about the series, and to register as a participant or presenter. For more information on the speakers from every session and to access recordings of previous sessions, please click here.

Therapeutic advances in oncology have led to a larger number of long-term cancer survivors. However, in many cases, cancer treatment directly or indirectly exerts negative effects on bone biology, and affected patients are prone to an increased risk of bone loss, osteoporosis, and consequent fractures. Even in highly prevalent conditions, too many patients remain undertreated and questions regarding choice and duration of osteoprotective treatment remain. Guest Editor and JBMR® Deputy Editor Lorenz Hofbauer, M.D., invites your original papers and reviews that deal with the various aspects of epidemiology, health economics, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of bone disease related to cancer. Please visit the ASBMR Publications Hub for more details and to submit your paper today!
