Congratulations to Abdullah "Arby" Abood, first author of “Identification of Known and Novel Long Noncoding RNAs Potentially Responsible for the Effects of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Genomewide Association Study (GWAS) Loci,” for being selected as the recipient of the 2022 ASBMR Raisz-Drezner JBMR® First Paper Award!

"We are excited about our work showing the potential of long non-coding RNAs to play a role in the genetic regulation of bone mass. As a Ph.D. student new to the bone field, receiving this award for my first paper in JBMR® is a true honor. It is even more special that the award is named after two pioneers in the field," - Abdullah "Arby" Abood.

JBMR® Editor-in-Chief Dr. Roberto Civitelli praised Abdullah "Arby" Abood and his team, “The authors apply powerful, unbiased, systematic approaches to discover new lncRNAs that mediate the link between bone mineral density and genes identified in Genome-Wide Association Studies. Aside the novelty, the work is based on human samples and includes validation of lcnRNAs expression in osteoblast cultures. The technology applied is state of the art and requires high level training and expertise. Use of human samples makes the conclusions highly relevant for possible translation. This is a very high quality work that we are proud to publish in JBMR®.”

The ASBMR Raisz-Drezner JBMR® First Paper Award honors ASBMR members who are first authors of first time meritorious scientific publications published in the society's flagship journal. Qualified articles are reviewed and ranked by a committee composed of the journal's executive editors and the Editor-in-Chief of JBMR®.

Abdullah "Arby" Abood's article appeared in the June 2022 issue of JBMR®.
