Becoming a THRIVE Scholar

To help applicants understand what participation involves, we've outlined the eligibility criteria, application requirements, and scholar expectations below. Our goal is to make the process clear, supportive, and accessible so you can confidently take the next step toward joining the THRIVE community.

Eligibility

To qualify for the THRIVE Program, applicants must:

Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Work as a basic, clinical, or translational scientist in a field related to bone, mineral, or musculoskeletal research
Identify as a member of an under-resourced community (including, but not limited to, race/ethnicity, disability, or disadvantaged background)
Have completed doctoral-level training (MD, PhD, or equivalent) within the last 10 years
Provide documentation of Responsible Conduct of Research training from their home institution
Confirm that their supervisor understands and supports the program's time commitment

A complete application includes:

Online application form
Letter of Interest describing your career goals and why you wish to join THRIVE
Letter of Recommendation
- Postdocs/residents: from your research advisor or program director
- Junior faculty: from a senior colleague or supervisor familiar with your work and development needs
NIH Biosketch
Supervisor acknowledgment confirming awareness of and support for your participation

Expectations of THRIVE Scholars

THRIVE Scholars commit to fully engaging in the two‑year program by:

Meeting with their assigned THRIVE Mentor for one hour each month
Connecting with their mentor in-person at the ASBMR Annual Meeting
Developing and implementing two Individualized Development Plans (IDPs):
- One aligned with promotion and tenure expectations at their institution
- One focused on career and leadership development within ASBMR
Attending the ASBMR Annual Meeting each year of the program
Participating in at least 90% of monthly professional development webinars
Making the most of the opportunities, resources, and support offered through THRIVE
