Washington, D.C. — July 21, 2025 — The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Judy Keen, Ph.D., as its new Executive Director. Dr. Keen brings more than two decades of leadership experience across the biomedical research, nonprofit, and pharmaceutical sectors, with a distinguished record of advancing science, fostering innovation, and building strategic partnerships.
Dr. Keen most recently served as Director of Translational Science for the Cancer Portfolio at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH), where she oversaw more than $250 million in public-private partnerships and clinical research initiatives. Her career includes leadership roles at the American Society of Hematology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, and Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where she developed groundbreaking programs in oncology, digital medicine, and health equity.
“ASBMR is at a pivotal moment in our mission to advance bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal science worldwide,” said Jennifer Westendorf, Ph.D., President of the ASBMR Council. “Dr. Keen’s scientific knowledge, vast array of experiences in biomedical research sectors, and ability to build impactful collaborations make her the ideal leader to guide the society into our next chapter.”
A trained scientist with a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Keen has served on numerous advisory boards, including the Johns Hopkins University Board of Trustees and the Consumer Technology Association Health Board. She has also been a champion for biomedical and STEM research and a mentor to emerging investigators across disciplines.

Dr. Keen assumed the role on July 17, 2025, and will be based in ASBMR’s Washington, D.C. office. Members and the scientific community can meet Dr. Keen at the 2025 ASBMR Annual Meeting from September 5 to 8 in Seattle, Washington, USA.
