*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|* View this email in your browser TABLE OF CONTENTS Laura Calvi, M.D. Takes Office Virtual Town Hall Sessions Annual Meeting Survey THRIVE Publications Reviewer Training Track Career Opportunities JBMR® and JBMR® Plus Bone Science in the News Events Calendar Laura Calvi, M.D. Takes Office as ASBMR President Laura Calvi, M.D., has taken office as the new president of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). “My desire to serve as President, stems from my love and gratitude for the Society as the peer and mentoring community that has sustained me throughout my career as a physician scientist.” Calvi stated. “I would like to sustain and expand the diverse membership of ASBMR, fostering outreach to other scientific societies, and focusing particularly on creating learning and mentoring opportunities for members in training, centered on the Annual Meeting but developing a strategic and coordinated educational portfolio to extend musculoskeletal learning throughout the year.” Dr. Calvi is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Rochester and SKAWA Foundation Professor in Endocrinology and Metabolism. She also serves as the Vice Chair for Basic & Translational Science in the Department of Medicine. Her research focuses on Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Microenvironmental Regulation of Hematopoietic Stem Cells in the Bone Marrow. She has published more than 75 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Dr. Calvi will serve as President of ASBMR until the conclusion of the ASBMR 2024 Annual Meeting in Toronto, ON, Canada. Selected participants will enter a three-year program that includes monthly professional development and mentoring sessions, travel support to attend functions at the ASBMR Annual Meeting and third-party technical training, and selection priority for a variety of society leadership opportunities. ASBMR is calling for applicants for our inaugural Reviewer Training Track, a new initiative from the ASBMR journals to train the next generation of expert reviewers. The training track is open to all ASBMR members who have completed at least 2 years of Master's, PhD, MD, or another terminal degree/equivalent education, and who have a keen interest in scholarly publishing and a desire to contribute as a reviewer. No previous peer review experience is required and individuals at all career levels are encouraged to apply for the training. The application deadline is Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
