The Fellow of the ASBMR program recognizes long-term ASBMR members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of bone, mineral and musculoskeletal science. The program is committed to recognizing the breadth and diversity of the Society’s membership. Fellows are nominated by their peers, followed by evaluation and selection by a review committee. ASBMR is pleased to offer the Rising Star Awards for the third consecutive year. The ASBMR Rising Star Awards program will provide funding to promising young scientists and physician-scientists in the bone, mineral and musculoskeletal field who have already been recognized by individual NIH “K awards” and other similar international professional development programs. The award provides additional funding to the awardees to successfully implement their programs, stay in the field and transition to independent investigators. Grant submissions can be basic, clinical or translational and the primary focus must be on bone, mineral and musculoskeletal research. The Application Deadline is tomorrow, Friday, March 16, 2018. Did you know? JBMR® Plus supports its authors who hold an NIH grant by depositing the accepted version of articles to PubMed Central (PMC). Authors must indicate during the submission process that their work was funded by the NIH. Authors not funded by the NIH may upload their JBMR® Plus accepted manuscript to PMC to receive a PMCID. The ASBMR Abstract Center is open and accepting abstracts for the ASBMR 2018 Annual Meeting taking place September 28 - October 1 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Submit an abstract and showcase your research to a global audience of colleagues and experts at the premier international meeting for bone, mineral and musculoskeletal research. The submission deadline is April 11. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, the highest-ranked bone journal. Members of past and present ASBMR leadership joined NIH representatives to honor the career of Dr. Joan McGowan, Ph.D. with a celebratory dinner on Thursday, February 22, 2018. As stated by one attendee: “Many of us in the [bone, mineral and musculoskeletal] field have been successful in our careers because of Dr. McGowan’s advice and her advocacy for our work.” ASBMR would like to thank Dr. McGowan once again for her many contributions to the field, and wish her the best for her upcoming retirement.
